If the ratio of boys to girls in a class is 5:7, and there are 60 students in total, how many boys are there?
Solution:
Total parts = 5 + 7 = 12
Each part = 60 ÷ 12 = 5
Number of boys = 5 × 5 = 25
Number of girls = 7 × 5 = 35
Total parts = 5 + 7 = 12
Each part = 60 ÷ 12 = 5
Number of boys = 5 × 5 = 25
Number of girls = 7 × 5 = 35
Question 2:
The ratio of apples to oranges is 2:3. If there are 50 fruits in total, how many apples are there?
The ratio of apples to oranges is 2:3. If there are 50 fruits in total, how many apples are there?
Solution:
Total parts = 2 + 3 = 5
Each part = 50 ÷ 5 = 10
Number of apples = 2 × 10 = 20
Number of oranges = 3 × 10 = 30
Total parts = 2 + 3 = 5
Each part = 50 ÷ 5 = 10
Number of apples = 2 × 10 = 20
Number of oranges = 3 × 10 = 30
Question 3:
The ratio of workers to machines is 6:4. If there are 16 machines, how many workers are there?
The ratio of workers to machines is 6:4. If there are 16 machines, how many workers are there?
Solution:
Workers : Machines = 6 : 4 → 6/4 = 1.5
Machines = 16, so workers = 1.5 × 16 = 24
Workers : Machines = 6 : 4 → 6/4 = 1.5
Machines = 16, so workers = 1.5 × 16 = 24

A recipe requires 3 cups of flour for every 2 cups of sugar. If you use 6 cups of flour, how much sugar is needed?
Solution:
Flour : Sugar = 3 : 2
Flour = 6 cups → factor = 6 ÷ 3 = 2
Sugar needed = 2 × 2 = 4 cups
Flour : Sugar = 3 : 2
Flour = 6 cups → factor = 6 ÷ 3 = 2
Sugar needed = 2 × 2 = 4 cups
Question 5:

A school has a ratio of 8 boys to 5 girls. If there are 130 students in total, how many girls are there?
Solution:
Total parts = 8 + 5 = 13
Each part = 130 ÷ 13 = 10
Number of girls = 5 × 10 = 50
Number of boys = 8 × 10 = 80
Total parts = 8 + 5 = 13
Each part = 130 ÷ 13 = 10
Number of girls = 5 × 10 = 50
Number of boys = 8 × 10 = 80
