The poor man and the rich man" story

The Poor man and the rich man

A poor cobbler and a rich businessman were neighbors. The poor cobbler had a workshop in his home. He sang merry songs when he mended the shoes. He never felt it necessary to shut and bolt the doors and windows of his house at night. He would say prayers before he went to bed, but without being worried, he enjoyed sound sleep.

The rich man always saw his poor neighbor, but the rich man could not sing and smile. His life was full of worries compared to him. He shut and bolted the doors and windows of his house and worried about the safety of his wealth.

One day, the rich man called the poor cobbler to his house. He gave him five thousand rupees and said, 'This money is not necessary for me. Keep it.' The poor cobbler received the money merrily. At night, he worried and was disturbed and could not sleep well. He saw these rupees again and again and could not sleep well.

After the very next morning, he came to the rich man. With folded hands, he said, 'Sir, I don't want your money. Please take it back.'"

Moral of the story

Wealth does not always bring happiness.

 Same story in urdu :

"Ek ghareeb mochi aur ek ameer karobar wala padosi the. Ghareeb mochi ke ghar mein uske kaam karne ki workshop thi. Jab woh juton ki marammat karta tha, toh khushi se gaane gaata tha. Raat ko apne ghar ke darwaze aur khidkiyon ko band karne ki zarurat mehsoos nahi karta tha. Woh sone se pehle dua karta tha, magar pareshan hone ki zarurat mehsoos nahi karta tha aur neend ki achi tarah se lazzat leta tha.

Ameer karobar wala hamesha apne ghareeb padosi ko dekhta tha, magar woh nahi gaata aur nahi muskuraata tha. Uski zindagi uske padosi ke muqaable mein pareshaniyon se bhari thi. Woh apne ghar ke darwaze aur khidkiyon ko band kar deta tha aur apni dolat ki suraksha ki fikr karta tha.

Ek din, ameer karobar wala ghareeb mochi ko apne ghar bulaya. Usne usko paanch hazaar rupaye diye aur kaha, 'Mere liye yeh paisa zaroori nahi hai. Tum rakho.' Ghareeb mochi ne khushi se paisa le liya. Raat ko woh pareshan tha aur bechain tha aur neend ki achi tarah se lazzat nahi le paaya. Woh baar baar us paisay ko dekhta tha aur achi tarah se neend nahi aati thi.

Agley din subah, woh ameer karobar wale ke paas gaya. Apni haath jod kar, usne kaha, 'Sir, mujhe aapke paise ki zaroorat nahi hai. Please wapas le lijiye.'

Kahani ka moral yeh hai ki dolat hamesha khushi nahi laati."
